Ted Kennedy was a "man of quiet prayer"

ABC News reported on Ted Kennedy's death Wednesday with a surreal account that must make those who truly fear God fall to their knees in fear and trembling for the man's soul.

The Rev. Patrick Tarrant, who was present with the family during those final hours, said he was impressed by Kennedy's spirituality and faith as he faced death.

The priest said family members were crying and that in his final moments Kennedy was "a man of quiet prayer....The truth is, he had expressed to his family that he did want to go," Tarrant told WCVB, ABC News' Boston affiliate. "He did want to go to heaven. He did want to die... He was ready to go."

The article went on to describe how prayerful the final scene was with family members crying and praying around the Senator's bedside.

Well, a fair question to ask is, who exactly were these folks praying to? Ted Kennedy spent his entire career supporting the murder of the innocent through abortion, abortifacient birth control, and stem cell research. He championed sodomy as well making him an apostle for two of the sins that cry to heaven for vengeance. He led the calumny and slander brigade against an eminently qualified constitutionalist, Justice Robert Bork, when he was named to the Supreme Court and attemted "to bork" others who did not uphold his murderous liberalism.

God offered Kennedy a long warning of his impending death giving him ample time to publicly try to undo the scandal of his life working for the evil one. And yet there isn't one shred of evidence of public repentance. The scandal of his life will be continued at his funeral when our abortion president gets up and eulogizes his political twin. So Kennedy died as he lived. Where is the sign of conversion?

A requirement for a good confession is making a sincere purpose of amendment. Did Fr. Tarrant even remind the senator of that, or was he so starstruck that he let this man die without repenting? One unconfessed mortal sin, as St. Ignatius of Loyala reminds us in the Spiritual Exercises, condemns us to hell. Did Kennedy repent of his abortion advocacy, his support for sodomy, his defense of cannibalizing embryonic babies? A woman who aborts kills one baby; a politician like Kennedy kills millions. Judas didn't nail Christ to the cross but his betrayal killed Him.

The reporting during this entire episode reminds me of another champion of child murder, Justice William Brennan, the real author of Roe v. Wade and a Catholic. He also died as he lived, proud of his record of enabling abortion. Bill and Hillary Clinton sat in the front row at his funeral honoring a man who fulfilled their liberal dreams. He was eulogized by a colleague on the court and by the homilist, his pastor, a priest of the diocese of Arlington who gushed about how much he learned from the judge. Father described holding Brennan's newborn great grandchild, his first, at the wake. He seemed oblivious to the irony of all the unborn infants who would never see the light of day because of Roe v. Wade. Brennan, like Kennedy, apparently did not learn in his final hours that one has an obligation to try to undo the damage of his public scandal. He never publicly repented or asked that an apology be made at his funeral. In fact, Brennan spent his final days expressing the wish to be buried, not from his home parish in Arlington, Our Lady of Lourdes, but from St. Matthew's Cathredral in Washington. Even in death he craved honors.

And so also with Ted Kennedy. Eulogies aren't allowed at Catholic funerals, but Barack Obama will give one and he is the best man for the job. An advocate of murdering the innocent will stand up and praise another murderer of the innocent. Judas will praise Judas. The living Judas will rack up more political points among "cultural Catholics" who know little about their faith and care less.

One can argue that Kennedy should receive a Catholic funeral since a priest was called to his side to give him the last rites. But certainly his funeral should be a humble, private affair in view of the public scandal of his life. That those with the authority to stop this travesty allow it go on is one more indication of the collapse of the faith of the hierarchy in America. It's a reminder that the tower of Babel continues to be built by churchmen more enamored by the worldly Babylon than the City of God.

Will God be impressed?

  1. Once again I am grieved. Not only for Ted Kennedy's soul, but what of those who are accomplices in this scandal? The spineless heirarchy? Silence is consent. They still make millstones, don't they?

America is dying and the epitaph could read a "nation of quiet prayer". Again the question needs to be asked: prayer to who? Cause and affect? No doubt.

Another sacrilege will occur. Praises will be lauded and babies continue to die. How many lives did the "Lion of the Senate" devour? God knows.

    Lord have mercy.

  2. Will all the cumalot concubines throw themselves on the funeral pyre or on O'bamaugh? The mafia fascist molestor league elected Baerpheon O'Phalleigh O'Bamaugh as president with the most Catholic cabinet in history. Just as Kennedy was a hypocrit, Vatican Osservatore Romano editor Vian said on may 18th that Obama "is not a pro-abortion president." What does this prove? That the Vatican message on abortion has only been for politcal purposes. It was used to divide, to encourage Catholics to breed and to encourage non-Catholics to abort out of spite. The Vatican likes the abortion status quo in the USA for this reason. Their purpose is only conquest, not faith. Carolignian Brzezinski spawned Zia al Haq, Khomeini, and bin Laden - breaks up superpowers via Aztlan and Kosovo as per Joel Garreau's Nine Nations. Brzezinski, Buckley and Buchanan winked anti-Semitic votes for Obama, delivered USA to Pope's feudal basket of Bamana Republics. Michael Pfleger and Joe Biden prove Obama is the Pope's boy. Obama is half a Kearney from County Offaly in Ireland. Talal got Pontifical medal as Fatima mandates Catholic-Muslim union against Jews (Francis Johnson, Great Sign, 1979, p. 126), Catholic Roger Taney wrote Dred Scott decision. John Wilkes Booth, Tammany Hall and Joe McCarthy were Catholics. Now Catholic majority Supreme Court. Catholics Palmisano, Grasso, Damato, Langone, Mozilo, Ranieri, Dioguardi, Palmieri destroyed American industry. Subprime construction mobsters had hookers deliver mortgages to banks. McCain's Keeting started it all. They find American cars too advanced to use or their mechanics to fix. Ellis Island Popeholes brought in FDR. Their slovenly, anti-intellectual work ethic produces vacuous, casuistrous blather and a tangle of contradictory regulations. Their clubhouse purges provided praetorian training for corporate misgovernance. NYC top drop outs: Hispanic 32%, Black 25%, Italian 20%. NYC top illegals: Ecuadorean, Italian, Polish. They killed six million Jews, a million Serbs, half a million freemasons, a quarter million Gypsies, they guided the slaughter of Assyrians and Armenians, and promoted the art of genocide throughout the world. They had no qualms hijacking American policy in Vietnam or Balkans to papal ends, but when American interests opposed tose of the papacy in Iraq, they showed their true fangs (Frum, Unpatriotic Conservatives). They could not countenance a Mormon President! They broke their own coalition with their foreign adventures and with their unwillingness to extend home and school subsidies to other races, as evidenced by their missing their own Obama moment when they could have elected a Kenyan pope. Every American boom has been caused by an Evangelical Revival and every major Depression by the domination of new Catholic immigrants. See for example George Marlin's history of the conservative party in New York or Paul Johnson's Modern Times, extolling the rise of Carolignianism of Adenauer, de Gaulle, and Gaspieri, forgetting that Hitler, too, was Carolignian and a Catholic altar boy.

  3. Ours is not to judge the soul of anyone -- but if the state of your soul is proportional to the evil of your acts then Kennedy is likely due for the long burn.

We are all at risk and the most risk is carried by those who may imagine they are the best. The publican at the back of the synagogue beating his breast and praying "Lord have mercy on me a sinner" was in the right mode.

  4. Very prescient post, Mary Ann. I don't wish damnation on anyone, but the great lauds Mr. Kennedy is receiving from numerous Catholics in public life is very saddening. Just today, America magazine, run by the Jesuits at Georgetown University, attacked Patrik Madrid for criticizing a ridiculously fawning "obituary" in NCR. They hate it when you contradict the narrative.

  6. Superb Jon, the fact that someone at the Vatican says something doesn't make it the Vatican position. Neither does the fact that a baptized Catholic does something make it a "Catholic" position. Your post sounds very anti-Catholic.

As a Catholic I disagree with a lot of what other Catholics say and do when they oppose Church teaching. Hitler was a Catholic like Judas was an apostle. They were both betrayers. Hitler opposed everything the Church teaches and documents show he planned to capture and imprison the pope. Because of that Pope Pius XII made arrangements to formally resign in the event he was taken by the Nazis.

Your post shows ignorance of both history and Catholicism.

  8. Mary Ann, what a brilliant article! I am going right now to post the link to it from our blog.

Absolutely crystal clear and every word absolutely true.

  9. "advocate of murdering the innocent" you are the worse advocate for not pushing the Republicans when they had control of all 3 branches of government. You sat quietly taking the tax cuts for the wealthy.

Shame on you all for being so quiet and accomplices during the Bush administration but you were too busy fighting a unjustified war in Iraq for oil.

Now you would attach the sins of those mothers who have aborted their babies instead of suffer the inconvenience of being pregnant to Ted Kennedy? Then the sins of the errors committed by Catholics, Popes, priests and bishops committed thought the history of the Church should attach to the Church and you as well.

America is dying? That has been a theme dating back to 1800's. It's exactly what the protestants said about the millions of Catholic immigrants before the first world war. Now we have 7 Catholic supreme court justices?

You are letting your fears father your facts.

  10. Turfkiller, Your wild statements are slander. You know absolutely nothing about what I or anyone else who is pro-life did during the Bush years. This is simply an ad hominem attack which illustrates your lack of ability to argue on a rational basis.

Your statement about the sins attaching to the Church is irrational. Kennedy advocated legislation that permitted abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy. He opposed the amendment to let SCHIP be applied to unborn children. He championed every piece of pro-abortion legislation. To the degreee that evil laws encourage abortion, yes he is responsible for the blood of the innocent.

The Church, on the other hand, teaches that these things are immoral and forbidden so how can the Church be responsible for sins committed against her teachings? Your argument is illogical and silly.

Now I will say that the churchmen who allowed the funeral circus are guilty of scandal and to the degree they help normalize the Kennedy abortion/sodomy agenda they also are guilty of the blood of the babies. Based on this near canonization of Kennedy people will no doubt be led into sin and those who allowed it are guilty. Absolutely!

I have frequently addressed the immoral behavior of members of the U.S. hierarchy and will continue to do so when I think their actions are scandalous.

Finally, I'm retaining my moderator approval. In the future, if you have something substantive to say I'll post it, otherwise don't waste your tie or mine with your ad hominem attacks because I'm not posting them.
